Educational Q&A

Purification (here, washing the eyes) is presented as a means to remove obscuration and gain clearer perception—symbolically suggesting that disciplined cleansing can enable insight into realities normally hidden.

Mārkaṇḍeya describes a special water whose use cleanses the eyes and grants the ability to see concealed beings; the leading vānaras—Sugrīva, Jāmbavān, Hanumān, Aṅgada, Mainda, Dvivida, and Nīla—wash their eyes with it.
