Adhyāya 6: Vidura’s Saṃsāra-Upamā

The Allegory of the Well, Time, and Desire

etan me sarvam ācakṣva sādhu ceṣṭāmahe tadā | kṛpā me mahatī jātā tasyābhyuddharaṇena hi ||

Educational Q&A

Compassion should move one toward timely, well-directed effort: Vidura’s kṛpā is not passive emotion but becomes sādhu-ceṣṭā—proper, ethical action aimed at rescuing someone in distress.

Vidura asks for a full, clear report of the situation and declares that, once informed, they will immediately attempt to extract and save the person who is trapped or endangered, because he feels strong compassion for that person’s deliverance.
