अ॒जो अ॒ग्निर॒जमु॒ ज्योति॑राहुर॒जं जीव॑ता ब्र॒ह्मणे॒ देय॑माहुः । अ॒जस्तमां॒स्यप॑ हन्ति दू॒रम॒स्मिंल्लो॒के श्र॒द्दधा॑नेन द॒त्तः

IAST Transliteration

ajó agnír ajám u jyótiḥ ā́hur ajáṃ jī́vatā brā́hmaṇe déyam ā́huḥ | ajás tamā́ṃsy ápa hanti dūráṃ asmíṃl lóke śraddádhānena dattáḥ ||

English Translation (Griffith/Whitney)

Unborn is Agni—Unborn, forsooth, they call the Light; Unborn, life-bestowing, they declare a gift to be bestowed upon the Brāhmaṇa. The Unborn drives darkness far away, when here in this world it is given by one of faithful mind.

Translation

അജ (അജന്മ) അഗ്നിയാണ്—അജയെയാണു അവർ ജ്യോതി (പ്രകാശം) എന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നത്; അജ, ജീവൻ നൽകുന്നവൻ, ബ്രാഹ്മണനു നൽകേണ്ട ദാനമാണെന്ന് അവർ പറയുന്നു. ഈ ലോകത്തിൽ ശ്രദ്ധയുള്ള മനസ്സോടെ അത് ദാനം ചെയ്താൽ, അജൻ അന്ധകാരം ദൂരെയാക്കി നീക്കുന്നു.
