Thee, seated in the waters—seated in ghee, seated in the sky—taken with the Upayāma, I take, for Indra, acceptable; this is thy womb, for Indra, most acceptable. Thee, seated on earth—seated in mid-air, seated in heaven, seated among the gods, seated in the highest firmament—taken with the Upayāma, I take, for Indra, acceptable; this is thy womb, for Indra, most acceptable.

Thou art Indra’s thunderbolt; by thee may this steed win the prize. Now, for the furtherance of the prize, with our word we invoke by name the great Mother Aditi, into whom this whole world of being hath entered: in her may the god Savitṛ impel for us the sacred ordinance.
Mantra 6
Within the waters is ambrosia, within the waters is healing; and in the praises of the waters be ye, O steeds, victorious. O divine Waters, that wave of yours—your forward-thrust, your crested surge—by that may this steed win the prize.
Mantra 7

That swiftness of thine, O prize-winner, which is laid up in secret, which, encompassed like a falcon, hath moved even in the wind,—therewith, O prize-winner, be thou strong with strength, a winner of the prize, and one that carrieth through in the encounter. Ye prize-winners, winning the prize, running to the prize, smell ye down upon the portion of Bṛhaspati.

Mantra 40
This man, O Gods, do ye render free from rivals; make him thrive for mighty sovereignty, for mighty pre-eminence, for mighty rule over the people, for Indra’s lordly power. This son of such an one, this son of such an one, unto this folk—this is your king: Soma; and he is king of us, the Brāhmaṇas.
It begins the Vājapeya by energizing the sacrificer toward the vāja (winning prize), establishing royal efficacy, and securing the rite through truthful unified speech, directional ordering, and protection from hostile forces.
Bṛhaspati supplies brahman—sacral intelligence and authoritative speech—while Indra supplies conquering power; together they make victory legitimate, effective, and ritually secured rather than merely forceful.
They sacralize the ground as a mapped, guarded space: offerings are assigned to quarter-deities (and Nirṛti is appeased), while apotropaic yajus remove pṛtanā/abhimāti and strike down Rakṣas to prevent disruption of the sacrifice.
