भीष्म उवाच
A ruler seeking prosperity and happiness should practice dharmic generosity—specifically, giving land in a lawful, properly performed way to a deserving recipient—because such regulated giving is portrayed as a sustaining pillar of royal welfare and merit.
In Bhīṣma’s instruction on dharma, he addresses Śakra (Indra) and states a normative guideline for kings: continual pursuit of welfare should be paired with prescribed acts of dāna, highlighting land-gift as a particularly potent and socially stabilizing royal act.
