sūta uvāca | tatrāścaryamabhūtpūrvaṃ yattadbrāhmaṇasattamāḥ | ahaṃ vaḥ kīrtayiṣyāmi purāṇe yadudāhṛtam
Sūta
Tirtha: Suparṇākhya-kṣetra (implied by 'tatra' continuity)
Type: kshetra
Listener: Brāhmaṇa-sattamāḥ (assembled sages/brāhmaṇas)
Scene: Sūta addresses an assembly of eminent brāhmaṇas, announcing he will narrate an ancient wondrous event that occurred at that place, as preserved in the Purāṇa.
Sacred geography is taught through exemplary stories; the Purāṇa frames tīrtha-merit via memorable ‘marvel’ narratives.
The setting continues from the preceding tīrtha narrative in Nāgara Khaṇḍa; this verse introduces an episode without naming the site.
None; it is an introductory narrative verse (kathā-prastāva).
