एवं तस्य व्रतस्थस्य जपपूजापरस्य च । ततो वर्षसहस्रांते गतस्तुष्टिं महेश्वरः । अब्रवीद्वरदोऽस्मीति वृणुष्वेष्टं द्विजोत्तम
evaṃ tasya vratasthasya japapūjāparasya ca | tato varṣasahasrāṃte gatastuṣṭiṃ maheśvaraḥ | abravīdvarado'smīti vṛṇuṣveṣṭaṃ dvijottama
ಈ ರೀತಿ ಅವನು ವ್ರತಸ್ಥನಾಗಿ ಜಪ-ಪೂಜೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪರನಿಷ್ಠನಾಗಿ ಇದ್ದನು. ಆಗ ಸಾವಿರ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಅಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಹೇಶ್ವರನು ಸಂತುಷ್ಟನಾಗಿ—“ನಾನು ವರದಾತನು; ಹೇ ದ್ವಿಜೋತ್ತಮ, ನಿನಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾದ ವರವನ್ನು ಆಯ್ಕೆಮಾಡು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
