Kṛṣṇādi-Śivabhaktoddhāraṇa & Śiva-māhātmya-varṇana
Deliverance of Krishna and other devotees; Description of Shiva’s Greatness
śrīkṛṣṇa uvāca | devi tvaṃ parituṣṭāsi ceddadāsi varānhi me | tapasā'nena satyena brāhmaṇānprati māsmabhūt

The verse frames divine grace as inseparable from dharma: even when a boon is available, the seeker prioritizes inner purity—truthfulness, austerity, and reverence for the custodians of sacred knowledge—so that devotion remains aligned with Pati (Śiva) and not ego.
Linga/Saguna-Śiva worship in the Purāṇa is upheld by right conduct (ācāra). Respect for brāhmaṇas—guardians of mantra and ritual—protects the sanctity of worship and keeps the devotee’s relationship with Śiva grounded in humility and service.
A practical takeaway is to pair worship with satya and tapas: before pūjā, take a vow of truthful speech and non-contempt toward devotees/teachers, then perform Śiva-japa (e.g., Pañcākṣarī) with a respectful, disciplined mind.
