Bestowal of Divine Astras to Rama
तामसं नरशार्दूल सौमनं च महाबल।संवर्धं चैव दुर्धर्षं मौसलं च नृपात्मज।।1.27.17।।सत्यमस्त्रं महाबाहो तथा मायाधरं परम्।घोरं तेजः प्रभं नाम परतेजोऽपकर्षणम्।।1.27.18।।सौम्यास्त्रं शिशिरं नाम त्वष्टुरस्त्रं सुदामनम्।दारुणं च भगस्यापि शितेषु मथ मानवम्।।1.27.19।।
saumyāstraṃ śiśiraṃ nāma tvaṣṭur astraṃ sudāmanam |
dāruṇaṃ ca bhagasyāpi śiteṣu matha mānavam ||
ಸೌಮ್ಯ ‘ಶಿಶಿರ’ ಎಂಬ ಅಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನು ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸು; ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ತ್ವಷ್ಟೃನ ‘ಸುದಾಮನ’ ಅಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನು; ಮತ್ತು ಭಗನ ದಾರುಣ ‘ಶಿತೇಷು’ (ತೀಕ್ಷ್ಣ ಬಾಣಗಳ) ಅಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನೂ, ಮಾನವಾಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನೂ ಗ್ರಹಿಸು.
"O prince of great renown, I am extremely pleased. May you prosper! Out of great love and affection for you I shall make over all the weapons.
Dharma is implied through graded power: even ‘gentle’ and ‘terrible’ weapons are entrusted within a moral framework, reminding that capability must be matched by discretion and rightful use.
Viśvāmitra completes another segment of the list of astras being granted to Rāma, including those associated with deities like Tvaṣṭṛ and Bhaga.
Trustworthiness (viśvāsya-yogyatā): Rāma is treated as a fit vessel for potent knowledge, implying steadiness and self-control.
