शब्दवेध्य-अनर्थः, ऋषिशापः, दशरथस्य प्राणत्यागः

तदज्ञानान्महत्पापं कृत्वाहं सङ्कुलेन्द्रियः।एकस्त्वचिन्तयं बुध्या कथं नु सुकृतं भवेत्।।।।
tad ajñānān mahat pāpaṃ kṛtvāhaṃ saṅkulendriyaḥ |
ekas tv acintayaṃ buddhyā kathaṃ nu sukṛtaṃ bhavet ||
ಅಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ನಾನು ಆ ಮಹಾಪಾಪವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದೆನು; ನನ್ನ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳು ವ್ಯಾಕುಲವಾದವು. ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಂತಿಸಿದೆನು—‘ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾವ ಸತ್ಕರ್ಮ, ಯಾವ ಪ್ರಾಯಶ್ಚಿತ್ತ ಸಾಧ್ಯ?’
