tasmādviprā na kartvyā viddhāpyekādaśī tithiḥ | yathā haṃtipurā puṇyaṃ śrāddhaṃ ca vṛṣalīpatiḥ || 44 ||
Sanatkumara
Vrata: Ekadashi
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: raudra
It stresses that devotional merit depends on correct ritual timing: Ekādaśī must be observed on a “pure” tithi, because a viddhā (overlapped) Ekādaśī is treated as spiritually defective and merit-diminishing.
Ekādaśī is a core Vaiṣṇava vrata supporting Vishnu-bhakti; the verse teaches that devotion should be practiced with śāstra-guided discipline (tithi-śuddhi), not merely with intention.
It highlights calendrical decision-making (tithi-nirṇaya) tied to Jyotiṣa/Vedāṅga practice—determining when a tithi is ‘viddhā’ (pierced by another tithi) so the Ekādaśī observance is scheduled correctly.
