Mantra 1
अचेत्यग्निश्चिकितिर्हव्यवाड्न सुमद्रथः
Agni, the wise, hath become manifest; the bearer of oblations, for us, well-counselled and well-appointed for conveyance (of the offering).
Mantra 2
अग्ने त्वं नो अन्तम उत त्राता शिवो भुवो वरूथ्यः
Agni, thou art our nearest (friend), and also our protector; auspicious, thou art a sheltering refuge in the world of beings.
Mantra 3
भगो न चित्रो अग्निर्महोनां दधाति रत्नम्
Agni, bright as Bhaga, bestows treasure—(even) the wealth of the great—upon the worshipper.
Mantra 4
विश्वस्य प्र स्तोभ पुरो वा सन्यदि वेह नूनम्
Now, here, let the stobha go forth in front for all (the rite), uniting (the chant and the act) as a prelude.
Mantra 5
उषा अप स्वसुष्टमः सं वर्त्तयति वर्त्तनिं सुजातता
Dawn, most excellent in her own fair form, auspiciously born, sets the course in motion, and drives it onward (for the rite) now forth.
Mantra 6
इमा नु कं भुवना सीषधेमेन्द्रश्च विश्वे च देवाः
Now, unto whom shall we duly set these (oblations and praises) in the worlds?—unto Indra, and unto all the gods.
Mantra 7
वि स्रुतयो यथा पथ इन्द्र त्वद्यन्तु रातयः
As paths run forth in many channels, so, O Indra, may gifts proceed from thee (unto us).
Mantra 8
अया वाजं देवहितं सनेम मदेम शतहिमाः सुवीराः
By this (our chant), may we obtain the divinely-appointed prize of strength; may we rejoice, long-lived through a hundred winters, abounding in excellent sons.
Mantra 9
ऊर्जा मित्रो वरुणः पिन्वतेडाः पीवरीमिषं कृणुही न इन्द्र
With sustaining vigour Mitra and Varuṇa cause the Iḍā to swell; do thou, O Indra, make for us abundant food and nourishment.
Mantra 10
इन्द्रो विश्वस्य राजति
Indra is sovereign over all; he reigneth (and shineth) universally.
It links the rite’s success to Agni, who becomes manifest and carries the offering, and then confirms Indra (with the All-Gods) as the chief recipient and ruler over all.
The question frames correct ritual orientation—offerings and praise must be ‘placed’ with the proper divine recipients, resolved here as Indra and the Viśve Devāḥ.
