The sages who possessed great splendour bathed and offered oblations to fire at sunset and sat in front of Viswamitra.
Dharma is courteous reverence (maryādā) toward elders and teachers: Rāma honors the sages and takes his place before his instructor, ready to listen.
After the evening settling, Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa salute the assembled sages and sit before Viśvāmitra.
Humility and teachability—Rāma approaches the wise with respect and an attentive posture.
