Although a source of universal delight, although exceedingly generous and of cheerful countenance, highly renowned and capable Rama refused to accept the kingdom in accordance with the command of his father.
Pitṛvākya-paripālana: dharma is upheld by honoring a father’s command, even when it conflicts with power, comfort, or rightful entitlement.
Bharata offers kingship to Rāma, but Rāma refuses because he prioritizes his father’s directive and the integrity of the promise.
Rāma’s steadfastness and self-restraint: he rejects a legitimate throne to preserve dharma and truthfulness in action.
