nandigrāmaṃ gamiṣyāmi sarvān āmantraye 'dya vaḥ | tatra duḥkham idaṃ sarvaṃ sahiṣye rāghavaṃ vinā ||
I take leave of all of you. I am going to Nandigrama where I shall keep company with grief on account of Rama's absence.
Self-chosen austerity for righteousness: Bharata accepts personal hardship to avoid enjoying comforts that properly belong to Rama.
Bharata announces his departure from the capital to live at Nandigrāma while Rama is absent.
Self-denial and steadfastness: he chooses a life marked by sorrow and restraint rather than royal ease.
