Prāyaścitta for Mahāpātakas and the Sin-destroying Power of Viṣṇu-smaraṇa

Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It teaches that sin is not merely erased by outward acts; true purification occurs when one is free from passions like attachment and is sincerely remorseful—otherwise one risks spiritual decline.
Bhakti requires inner purity: freedom from rāga (self-centered craving) and anutāpa (heartfelt repentance) so that devotion becomes transformative rather than performative.
No specific Vedanga (like Vyakarana, Jyotisha, or Kalpa) is taught in this verse; it emphasizes ethical-psychological prerequisites—vairagya and anutapa—that make any ritual or discipline spiritually effective.
