Mārkaṇḍeya
Tirtha: Śikhitīrtha
Type: ghat
Scene: A pilgrim at a riverbank performs tilodaka-tarpaṇa to devas, ṛṣis, and pitṛs; nearby a small sacred fire is tended; a brāhmaṇa receives a gold gift as dakṣiṇā.
Pilgrimage is completed by dharmic duties—gratitude to devas/ṛṣis/pitṛs, honoring fire, and charity—uniting personal merit with cosmic reciprocity.
The rites are prescribed in the Śikhitīrtha context of the Revā (Narmadā) region.
Offer tarpaṇa with sesame-water, perform satisfaction of the sacred fire (Agni), and give gold (hiraṇya-dāna) to a brāhmaṇa.
