मनु-शतरूपा-प्रसूतिः तथा दक्षकन्याविवाहाः

ऋतवः पितरस्तस्मादित्येषा वैदिकी श्रुतिः । युष्मादृतुषु सर्वे हि जायंते स्थास्नुजंगमा । तस्मादेते पितर आर्तवा इति च श्रुतम् । एवं पितॄणामेतेषामृतुकालाभिमानिनाम्
ṛtavaḥ pitarastasmādityeṣā vaidikī śrutiḥ | yuṣmādṛtuṣu sarve hi jāyaṃte sthāsnujaṃgamā | tasmādete pitara ārtavā iti ca śrutam | evaṃ pitṝṇāmeteṣāmṛtukālābhimāninām
ゆえにヴェーダのシュルティは宣言する。「季節こそピトリ（祖霊）である」と。汝らが季節として在るがゆえに、動かぬものも動くものも、あらゆる存在は汝らより生まれる。ゆえにまた、これらのピトリは「アールタヴァ（季節に属する者）」と呼ばれると聞く。かくして彼らは、時と季節の循環を司る者と理解される。
