Cosmic Measures and the Arrangement of the Heavenly Spheres
अनंतस्य न तस्यास्ति संख्यापि परमात्मनः । तेनानंत इति ख्यातः प्रमाणं नास्ति वै यतः
anaṃtasya na tasyāsti saṃkhyāpi paramātmanaḥ | tenānaṃta iti khyātaḥ pramāṇaṃ nāsti vai yataḥ
その至上我(パラマートマン)には、数さえも当てはまらない—限りも数えも付し得ない。ゆえに「アナンタ(無限)」と称えられる。いかなる尺度も彼を区切れないからである。
Suta Goswami (narrating the Uma Samhita’s philosophical teaching to the sages, consistent with Purana discourse style)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Type: stotra
It declares Shiva as Paramatma who cannot be quantified or bounded by thought, number, or any measuring standard—guiding the seeker to transcend limited concepts and rest in the Infinite Pati (Lord) as the ground of liberation.
The Linga functions as a sacred support for devotion and meditation, while this verse reminds devotees that the reality indicated by the Linga is ultimately Ananta—beyond all finite forms—so Saguna worship culminates in realization of Shiva’s limitless nature.
Meditate on Shiva as “Ananta” while repeating the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), letting the mind release measurements and comparisons; in ritual, offer worship to the Linga with the intent that the Infinite cannot be contained, only reverently approached.
