शङ्खचूडवधकथनम् / The Account of Śaṅkhacūḍa’s Slaying
देवा ऊचुः । देवदेव न जानीमो जातं किं कारणं त्विह । संतप्तास्स कला जातास्तेजसा केन तद्वद
devā ūcuḥ | devadeva na jānīmo jātaṃ kiṃ kāraṇaṃ tviha | saṃtaptāssa kalā jātāstejasā kena tadvada
デーヴァたちは言った。「神々の神よ、ここで何が起こったのか、その原因も私たちには分かりません。神的な力と分有が焼き焦がされたのは、いかなる者の光輝によるのですか。どうかお告げください。」
The Devas
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Type: stotra
It shows the Devas’ limitation before supreme Tejas and their turning to Devadeva (Shiva) as the ultimate Pati, the only one who can reveal the true cause behind cosmic disturbance.
The Devas approach Shiva as the manifest Lord who can be addressed, questioned, and worshipped—Saguna Shiva—while the “tejas” also hints at the transcendent power that the Linga signifies as the inexhaustible source.
A practical takeaway is śaraṇāgati (seeking refuge) through Shiva-japa—especially the Panchakshara “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—to dispel inner ‘heat’ (agitation) and gain clarity through Shiva’s grace.
