अध्याय १७ — देवपलायनं, विष्णोः प्रतियुद्धं, जलंधरक्रोधः
Devas’ Rout, Viṣṇu’s Counterattack, and Jalandhara’s Wrath
भयंङ्करेण दैत्यस्य नादेन पूरितं तदा । जलंधरस्य महता चकम्पे सकलं जगत्
bhayaṃṅkareṇa daityasya nādena pūritaṃ tadā | jalaṃdharasya mahatā cakampe sakalaṃ jagat
そのとき世界は、ダイティヤの恐るべき咆哮に満ちた。ジャランダラの大いなる轟きによって、あらゆる世界は震え動いた。
Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahākāla
Cosmic Event: lokakampa (world-trembling) motif
It highlights how asuric power can create fear and disturbance on a cosmic scale, yet such might is still part of the changing world; in Shaiva thought, true refuge is in Pati (Shiva), beyond the tremors of samsara.
The verse sets the battlefield mood where worldly forces appear overwhelming; Linga/Saguna Shiva worship trains the devotee to anchor the mind in Shiva’s protection and steadiness, rather than be shaken by external “roars” of adversity.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” to cultivate inner fearlessness and steadiness when confronted by intimidating circumstances.
