Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating Shiva Purana teachings to the sages, Rudra Saṃhitā context)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It teaches that approaching Lord Shiva requires humility—seeking forgiveness, keeping a reverent attitude, and reaffirming devotion through repeated salutations, which purifies the devotee and aligns the soul (paśu) toward Pati (Shiva).
The instruction “pūjayet… parayā bhaktyā” supports Saguna worship—devotional puja to Shiva (often as the Linga) preceded by inner repentance and followed by repeated namaskāra, making the external rite a vehicle for inner purification.
A practical takeaway is to begin Shiva-puja with kṣamā-prārthanā (a prayer for forgiveness), then perform worship with focused bhakti, concluding with repeated namaskāra—optionally accompanied by japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”).
