संध्याचरित्रवर्णनम् (Sandhyā-caritra-varṇanam) — “Narration of Sandhyā’s Austerity and Encounter with Śiva”
तपसा सत्समो नास्ति न भूतो न भविष्यति । येन यज्ञस्समारब्धो ज्योतिष्टोमो महाविधिः
tapasā satsamo nāsti na bhūto na bhaviṣyati | yena yajñassamārabdho jyotiṣṭomo mahāvidhiḥ
苦行(タパス)に等しい聖なる功徳はない—過去にもなく、未来にもない—なぜなら苦行によってこそ、厳格な法に則る大いなるジョーティシュトーマ祭祀が正しく開始され、成就へと動き出すからである。

Tattva Level: pashu
Shakti Form: Satī
Role: liberating
It declares tapas (disciplined austerity) as the highest purifier and enabler of dharma—surpassing other merits—because it refines the seeker’s intention and capacity for sacred action, aligning the soul toward Shiva’s grace and liberation.
In Shaiva practice, outer worship gains depth through inner tapas—vows, restraint, and steady devotion—so Linga worship is not merely ritual but a disciplined offering of the self, making the worship fit to receive Shiva’s presence (Saguna) and realize His transcendent nature (Nirguna).
Adopt tapas as a vrata: fasting or regulated diet, celibacy/restraint, truthfulness, and daily japa of Shiva’s name (especially the Panchakshara, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), supporting any puja or observance with disciplined consistency.
