देवस्तुतिः—नन्दिकेश्वरविज्ञप्तिः—शम्भोः समाधेः उत्थानम्

कामो हि नरकायैव तस्मात् क्रोधोभिजायते । क्रोधाद्भवति संमोहो मोहाच्च भ्रंशते तपः

kāmo hi narakāyaiva tasmāt krodhobhijāyate | krodhādbhavati saṃmoho mohācca bhraṃśate tapaḥ

欲(カーマ)はまことに地獄の苦しみへと導くのみ。そこから怒りが生まれる。怒りより迷妄が起こり、迷妄よりタパス—霊的修行と内なる苦行—は失われる。

It maps a classic chain of bondage: kāma breeds krodha, krodha breeds moha, and moha destroys tapas. In Shaiva thought, when tapas collapses, the mind loses steadiness for Shiva-bhakti and jñāna, strengthening pāśa (bondage) instead of moving toward moksha.

Linga/Saguna-Shiva worship requires purity of intention and steadiness. Desire-driven agitation and anger disturb the mind, making worship mechanical; restraining kāma and krodha supports focused japa, dhyāna, and reverent Linga-upāsanā that ripens into grace (anugraha).

Practice daily Panchakshara japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with breath-aware repetition, and pair it with simple vrata-like restraint (sense-control) to weaken kāma and krodha. Applying vibhūti (Tripuṇḍra) and maintaining a calm, non-reactive mind during japa are practical supports for protecting tapas.
