कुम्भकर्णवधः
The Slaying of Kumbhakarna
मयातुमोक्षितस्यास्यसुग्रीवस्यमहात्मनः ।अप्रीतिश्चभवेत्कष्टाकीर्तिनाशश्चशाश्वतः ।।।।
mayā tu mokṣitasya asya sugrīvasya mahātmanaḥ | aprītiś ca bhavet kaṣṭā kīrtināśaś ca śāśvataḥ ||
だが、もしこの大いなる魂のスグリーヴァを私が自ら解き放つなら、彼には苦い不快が生じ、名誉もまた永く損なわれよう。
"If Sugriva is released by me, he will not be happy forever. His fame will be lost."
Dharma includes protecting another’s rightful honor: help must be offered in a way that does not strip a leader of agency and earned reputation.
Hanumān considers whether to intervene directly to free Sugrīva and decides that premature rescue could damage Sugrīva’s standing.
Sensitivity to kīrti (honor) and wise restraint—Hanumān’s strength is guided by ethics, not impulse.
