Trijata’s Dream-Omens and the Rakshasis’ Reversal
समाजश्च मया दृष्टो गीतवादित्रनिःस्वनः।।5.27.34।।
पिबतां रक्तमाल्यानां रक्षसां रक्तवाससाम्।
samājaś ca mayā dṛṣṭo gītavāditraniḥsvanaḥ ||5.27.34||
pibatāṃ raktamālyānāṃ rakṣasāṃ raktavāsasām |
また私は、歌と楽器の響きで騒がしい、集いし羅刹たちを見た。彼らは酒を飲み、赤き花鬘を掛け、赤き衣をまとっていた。
"I saw this delightful Lanka teeming with horses, chariots and elephants, archways and towers crumbling and falling into the ocean.
Heedlessness and indulgence are shown as marks of decline: dharma requires restraint and clarity, not intoxicated revelry amid injustice.
Trijaṭā contrasts auspicious signs around Vibhīṣaṇa with the rākṣasa crowd’s noisy, indulgent behavior in her dream.
Implicitly, the virtue of self-control (dama)—highlighted by its absence in the rākṣasas.
