Brahmavākya
Brahmā’s Pronouncement on Hari-nāma and the Non-punishability of Viṣṇu’s Devotees
यस्योच्चारणमात्रेण प्राप्यते परमं पदम् । तमुपोष्य कथं सौरे न गच्छति नरस्त्विति ॥ २ ॥
yasyoccāraṇamātreṇa prāpyate paramaṃ padam | tamupoṣya kathaṃ saure na gacchati narastviti || 2 ||
「ただ御名を唱えるだけで至上の境地が得られるお方である。ゆえに、人がサウラ(太陽に関わる)の日に、その御方のために断食(ウパヴァーサ)を守るなら、どうしてその目的に到達しないことがあろうか。」
Narada (narrative voice; devotional-ritual exhortation within Uttara-Bhaga Mahatmya context)
Vrata: Saura-vrata (Sun-related observance; exact formal name not specified in the verse)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
It asserts the salvific power of the divine name—mere utterance grants access to the “supreme state,” and disciplined observance like fasting strengthens that same liberation-oriented devotion.
Bhakti is shown as both simple and effective: nāma (holy name) is primary, while vrata/upavāsa (fasting) functions as a supportive practice that intensifies remembrance and surrender.
Ritual discipline (vrata/upavāsa) is emphasized rather than a specific Vedanga; practically, it points to correct observance of calendrical occasions (saura days), aligning practice with sacred time.
