Ekādaśī Vrata-Vidhi and the Galava–Bhadrashīla Itihāsa
Dharmakīrti before Yama
haripūjāparo nityaṃ sarvabhūtahiterataḥ | ekādaśīvrataparo niṣiddhācāravarjitaḥ | nirddhandvo nirmamaḥ śānto haridhyānaparāyāṇaḥ || 45 ||
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: Ekadashi
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It defines the ideal Vaishnava character: daily Hari-worship, compassion for all beings, disciplined observance of Ekadashi, moral restraint, inner detachment, and steady meditation—together forming a complete path toward purification and liberation.
Bhakti here is not only ritual worship; it is a life-orientation—serving all beings, keeping sacred vows like Ekadashi, rejecting prohibited actions, and stabilizing the mind in Hari through dhyana—showing devotion as conduct, discipline, and contemplation.
The verse primarily emphasizes vrata and dharma-practice (Ekadashi observance and avoidance of niṣiddha-ācāra) rather than a specific Vedanga like Vyakarana or Jyotisha, presenting practical ritual-discipline as a support for Hari-bhakti.
