Adhyaya 32 — Rules for Parvana Śrāddha: Foods that Please the Ancestors and Items to Avoid
लशुनं गृञ्जनञ्चैव पलाण्डं पिण्डमूलकम् ।
करम्भं यानि चान्यानि हीनानि रसवर्णतः ॥
laśunaṃ gṛñjanaṃ caiva palāṇḍaṃ piṇḍamūlakam / karambhaṃ yāni cānyāni hīnāni rasavarṇataḥ
大蒜、グリニャナ、玉ねぎ、ピンḍムーラカ、カランバ、ならびに味と色において劣るその他の品々は(この文脈では)避けるべきである。

Śrāddha is portrayed as a rite of refinement: offerings should be fitting in quality and character. Avoidance of pungent or ‘inferior’ items expresses a ritual aesthetic of purity and restraint.
