The verse highlights the grim ethical tension of dharma in war: even a revered teacher like Droṇa, bound by role and circumstance, becomes an instrument of large-scale destruction. It invites reflection on how duty, allegiance, and the momentum of conflict can eclipse compassion.
Sañjaya describes Droṇa being surrounded on all sides by the Trigarta forces, yet continuing to range across the battlefield, cutting down great numbers of kṣatriya warriors with overwhelming martial power.
