King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt
गौतमान्मिथुनं जज्ञे शरस्तम्बाच्छरद्वत: | अश्वत्थाम्नश्न॒ जननी कृपश्चैव महाबल:
Gautamān mithunaṃ jajñe śarastambāc charadvataḥ | aśvatthāmnaś ca jananī kṛpī caiva mahābalāḥ kṛpaś caiva ||
ダーシャは言った。ゴータマの系譜に属する仙人シャラドヴァトから、葦の茂みより一対の子が生まれた。彼の精が葦叢に落ち、二つに分かれて、娘と息子を生じたのである。娘はクリピーと名づけられ、のちにアシュヴァッターマンの母となり、息子は大力のクリパとして世に知られた。この物語は、異様な誕生と予期せぬ事情からであっても、バーラタ族の義と戦の歴史を左右する人物が現れうることを示している。
