दश बालाज्जले क्रीडन्‌ भुजाभ्यां परिगृहार सः । आस्ते सम सलिले मग्नो मृतकल्पान्‌ विमुड्चति

Transliteration

daśa bālāj jale krīḍan bhujābhyāṃ parigṛhāra saḥ | āste sama-salile magno mṛta-kalpān vimuñcati ||

Translation

ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。水遊びの折、彼は両腕でドリタラーシュトラの十人の子らを抱え込み、同じ水の中に長く潜っていた。彼らが死に体のように—半ば意識を失い、命も尽きかけるほど—なってから、ようやく放したのである。この挿話は、遊戯における力の残酷な濫用を示し、遊びを害へと変え、のちの怨敵を育む倫理の腐蝕を予兆する。
