धर्म्यमर्थसमायुक्तमुवाच वचन हितम् | कौसल्ये धर्मतन्त्र॑ त्वां यद् ब्रवीमि निबोध तत्
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
dharmyam arthasamāyuktam uvāca vacanaṁ hitam |
kausalyē dharmatantre tvaṁ yad bravīmi nibodha tat ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。彼女は正しく、実際の利にもかなった有益な言葉を述べた。「おおカウサリヤよ、ダルマの規範に心を置く者よ。これから私が語ることをよく聞き、しかと理解せよ。」
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Speech should be both dharmic (morally right) and artha-aligned (practically wise), and it should be offered as hita—genuinely for the listener’s welfare—requiring attentive reception.
The narrator signals that a woman (contextually, an elder giving guidance) addresses Kausalyā with a beneficial instruction framed as dharma- and artha-consistent counsel, preparing the listener to heed what follows.
