Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Mantra","secondary_vidya":"Tantra","practical_application":"Japa-siddhi followed by lakṣa-homa as a completion rite (pūrṇāhuti-scale) using specified dravyas to intensify mantra-phala.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Lakṣa-homa after prescribed japa (meat/ghee dravya options)","lookup_keywords":["lakṣa-homa","japa-vidhi","māṃsa-homa","ājya-homa","mantra-siddhi"],"quick_summary":"After completing the prescribed japa, the sādhaka performs a one-lakh oblation homa. The verse lists dravya-options (buffalo/goat/ram flesh or substitutes, or ghee) indicating graded intensity and availability in prayoga."}

Concept: Mantra attains efficacy through disciplined repetition and fire-offering as karmic ‘sealing’ of the vow.

Application: Treat japa and homa as a paired protocol: japa generates mantra-śakti; homa externalizes and stabilizes it through dravya-agni-saṃyoga.

Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi / Mantra-sadhana and Homa (Ritual Procedures)

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka

FAQs

It prescribes the standard completion-step after regulated japa: a lakṣa-homa (100,000 oblations) using specified dravyas (materials), indicating how mantra-practice is ritually ‘sealed’ through fire-offering.

The Agni Purana functions as a practical handbook: alongside theology it preserves procedural ritual technology—counts (lakṣa), sequences (japa → homa), and permitted oblation-substances—typical of its wide-ranging, manual-like coverage.

By completing japa with a prescribed homa-count and proper offerings, the practitioner is understood to perfect the rite, remove defects (doṣa) in performance, and intensify the mantra’s efficacy and purificatory merit.
