Indra–Vṛtra Conflict and the Adversaries’ Tapas-Targeting Counsel
सप्तमेडब्दे गते चापि प्राच्यवत् स महाकवि: । ज्वलन्निव प्रभावेण दृढस्युर्नाम भारत,भारत! सात वर्ष बीतनेपर अपने तेज और प्रभावसे प्रज्वलित होता हुआ वह गर्भ उदरसे बाहर निकला। वही महादिद्दान् दृढस्युके नामसे विख्यात हुआ
saptame ’bde gate cāpi prācyavat sa mahākaviḥ | jvalann iva prabhāveṇa dṛḍhasyur nāma bhārata ||
When the seventh year had also passed, that great poet—radiant in power and splendor as though blazing—came forth from the womb in the manner of those of old. O Bhārata, he became renowned by the name Dṛḍhasyu.
लोगश उवाच
The verse highlights the Mahābhārata theme that extraordinary inner power (tejas/prabhāva) and destiny can manifest outwardly, and that one’s identity and renown are shaped by inherent qualities—here suggested by the blazing radiance and the name Dṛḍhasyu, implying firmness of resolve.
After a full seven years, a remarkable child described as a great poet is born, shining as if aflame with power. The narrator addresses the listener as 'Bhārata' and states that the newborn became famous under the name Dṛḍhasyu.
