Lomaśa’s Counsel and the Resolve for Pilgrimage

Dhaumya said: “O tiger among the Kurus, Sahadeva worshipped the sacred fires along the banks of the Yamunā, offering them generous priestly gifts—amounting to a hundred thousand in dakṣiṇā. This highlights the ethic that devotion is completed by rightful giving: reverence to the divine is joined with gratitude and support for sacred rites.”
Ritual devotion (service to Agni) is ethically completed by dakṣiṇā—rightful, generous giving that sustains sacred work and expresses gratitude; worship is not merely performance but responsible support.
Dhaumya recounts Sahadeva’s act of worship: he tended the sacred fires on the Yamunā’s bank and offered an exceptionally large dakṣiṇā (stated as a hundred thousand), praising his piety and generosity.
