O best of the Bharatas, near the vast and holy Badarī—belonging to that supremely renowned Lord—there is a sacred hermitage celebrated throughout the three worlds. That place is known as the āśrama of Nara and Nārāyaṇa, famed for its sanctity and power to purify.

Educational Q&A

The verse elevates tīrtha-yātrā and association with sanctified places: a hermitage linked with Nara–Nārāyaṇa is portrayed as universally revered and spiritually purifying, implying that proximity to dharmic austerity and divine presence supports inner purification and right conduct.

Dhaumya is describing to Yudhiṣṭhira a renowned sacred location—Badarī—and identifies there the famous hermitage of Nara and Nārāyaṇa, emphasizing its holiness and its fame across the three worlds as part of the broader pilgrimage/holy-place narration in the Vana Parva.
