Lomaśa’s Counsel and the Resolve for Pilgrimage
ऋषिर्महान् महा भागो जमदग्निर्महायशा: । पलाशकेषु पुण्येषु रम्येष्वयजत प्रभु:,महाभाग, महायशस्वी और महाप्रभावशाली महर्षि जमदग्निने परम सुन्दर तथा पुण्यप्रद पलाशवनमें यज्ञ किया था
ṛṣir mahān mahābhāgo jamadagnir mahāyaśāḥ | palāśakeṣu puṇyeṣu ramyeṣv ayajata prabhuḥ ||
Dhaumya said: The great sage Jamadagni—illustrious and highly blessed—performed a sacrifice in lovely and sanctifying groves of palāśa trees. The passage highlights the ideal of sacred action (yajña) undertaken in a pure setting by a spiritually powerful seer, presenting ritual duty as a means of sustaining dharma and auspiciousness.
धौम्य उवाच
The verse underscores dharmic action through yajña: a righteous person sustains sacred order by performing prescribed rites in a pure, auspicious environment, showing reverence for sanctity and disciplined duty.
Dhaumya narrates that the renowned sage Jamadagni conducted a sacrificial rite in beautiful, holy palāśa groves, setting the scene for a tradition of ascetic and ritual authority associated with that sage.
