दमयन्ती-शपथः वायोः साक्ष्यं च
Damayantī’s Oath and Vāyu’s Testimony
यदा च किंचित् कुर्यात् स कारणं तत्र भामिनि । तत्र संचेष्टमानस्य लक्षयन्ती विचेष्टितम्,'भामिनि! जब वह कोई काम करे तो उस कार्यको करते समय उसकी प्रत्येक चेष्टा और उसके कारणपर लक्ष्य रखना
bṛhadaśva uvāca | yadā ca kiñcit kuryāt sa kāraṇaṃ tatra bhāmini | tatra saṃceṣṭamānasya lakṣayantī viceṣṭitam ||
Bṛhadaśva said: “And whenever he undertakes any action, O passionate lady, observe closely in that very matter both the motive behind it and the manner of his efforts—marking his every movement as he strives.”
बृहृदश्च उवाच
Judge a person’s actions by careful attention to both the underlying motive (kāraṇa) and the observable conduct/effort (viceṣṭita) while the act is being carried out.
Bṛhadaśva is giving pointed counsel to a woman addressed as ‘bhāminī,’ instructing her to watch someone’s behavior during actions—tracking reasons and gestures—to understand true intent.
