Yudhiṣṭhira said: “I ask you—are you the foremost among the Rudras, or among the Vasus, or among the Maruts? Tell me, which god are you? This cannot be the work of a mere bird.”

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights discernment in crisis: Yudhiṣṭhira refuses to accept a superficial cause and instead seeks the deeper, possibly divine, agency behind events—an ethical impulse to understand truth before reacting.

Seeing his brothers fallen and lifeless, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses an unseen power, reasoning that such an extraordinary event cannot be caused by an ordinary bird; he asks which divine being is present—Rudra, Vasu, or Marut.
