Draupadī’s Application
पितामह: शान्तनव: शमं सम्पूजयिष्यति । कृष्णश्न देवकीपुत्र: शमं सम्पूजयिष्यति,मेरे पितामह शान्तनुनन्दन भीष्म शान्तिभावका ही आदर करेंगे। देवकीनन्दन श्रीकृष्ण भी शान्तिभावका ही आदर करेंगे
pitāmahaḥ śāntanavaḥ śamaṃ sampūjayiṣyati | kṛṣṇaś ca devakīputraḥ śamaṃ sampūjayiṣyati |
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “My grandsire, Bhīṣma—the son of Śāntanu—will honor the path of peace. Kṛṣṇa too, the son of Devakī, will likewise uphold and revere peace.” In this, Yudhiṣṭhira frames true greatness as reverence for restraint and reconciliation rather than the glorification of conflict.
युधिछिर उवाच
That true nobility and dharma are shown by honoring śama—peace, self-control, and reconciliation—especially when power and conflict are near at hand.
Yudhiṣṭhira speaks about revered figures—Bhīṣma and Kṛṣṇa—asserting that they will respect and uphold a peaceful disposition, implying that wise leaders value pacification over escalation.
