Sāvitrī’s Trirātra-Vrata and Departure with Satyavān (सावित्रीव्रतनिश्चयः सहगमनं च)
evaṁ bahuvidhaṁ dhīmān vilalāpa sa lakṣmaṇaḥ | tam uvācātha kākutsthaḥ sambhrameṣv apy asambhramaḥ ||
Thus, the wise Lakṣmaṇa lamented in many different ways. Then Kākutstha (Rāma)—steady even amid moments of panic and confusion—addressed him, speaking with composed discernment.
The verse contrasts grief-driven agitation with dharmic steadiness: true leadership and wisdom show themselves as composure (asambhrama) even when circumstances provoke panic (sambhrama).
Lakṣmaṇa, overwhelmed, laments in many ways; Rāma—identified as Kākutstha—remains calm and then speaks to Lakṣmaṇa, guiding him through the crisis with steadiness.
