Svargārohaṇa-parva Adhyāya 2 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s Inquiry for His Kin and the Vision of a Punitive Realm
devā ūcuḥ yadi vai tatra te śraddhā gamyatāṃ putra mā ciram | priye hi tava vartāmo devarājasya śāsanāt ||
The gods said: “If indeed your faith is set upon them there, then come—do not delay, dear son. For we are acting for what is pleasing to you, in obedience to the command of the King of the gods.”
The verse highlights that sincere śraddhā (faithful conviction) becomes a legitimate ground for action, and that divine agents present themselves as working for the devotee’s good while remaining bound to a higher order (Indra’s command). It frames guidance as both compassionate and duty-bound.
In Svargarohana, the gods address Yudhiṣṭhira and urge him to proceed without delay if his faith is directed toward those he seeks. They reassure him that their actions aim at what is dear to him, carried out under the authority of Indra.
