Indratīrtha–Ādityatīrtha: Balarāma’s Ritual Bathing, Dāna, and Sacred-Historical Recollections
सातं दृष्टवोग्रतपसं वसिष्ठ॑ तपतां वरम् । आचाोरैर्मुनिभिवद्दृष्ट: पूजयामास भारत,भरतनन्दन! उसने तपस्वी मुनियोंमें श्रेष्ठ और उग्र तपस्यापरायण वसिष्ठको देखकर मुनिजनोचित आचारोंद्वारा उनका पूजन किया
vaiśampāyana uvāca | sā taṁ dṛṣṭvogrātapasaṁ vasiṣṭhaṁ tapatāṁ varam | ācārair munibhir dṛṣṭaiḥ pūjayāmāsa bhārata bharatanandana ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Seeing Vasiṣṭha—of fierce austerity, the foremost among ascetics—he honored him, O Bhārata, O joy of the Bharatas, with the courtesies and observances approved among sages. The passage highlights reverence for spiritual excellence and the ethical duty of honoring the worthy through proper conduct.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores dharma expressed as ācāra: one should honor genuine spiritual excellence (tapas and sagehood) through respectful, tradition-sanctioned conduct, recognizing moral authority and cultivating humility.
The narrator states that upon seeing the great sage Vasiṣṭha—renowned for intense austerities—the person in the story pays him due honor using the customary courtesies and observances practiced among sages.
