समेतौ तौ महेष्वासौ शुष्मिणौ स्पर्थिनौ रणे

sametau tau maheṣvāsau śuṣmiṇau spardhinau raṇe

Sañjaya said: Those two mighty archers met together in battle—both fierce in spirit and eager to outdo one another—driven by the competitive ardor that fuels the clash of warriors.
