Discipline of Meditation and Mental Restraint
श्रीभगवानुवाच बहूनि मे व्यतीतानि जन्मानि तव चार्जुन । तान्यहं वेद सर्वाणि न त्वं वेत्थ परंतप,श्रीभगवान् बोले--हे परंतप अर्जुन! मेरे और तेरे बहुत-से जन्म हो चुके हैंः। उन सबको तू नहीं जानता, किंतु मैं जानता हूँ
śrībhagavān uvāca bahūni me vyatītāni janmāni tava cārjuna | tāny ahaṃ veda sarvāṇi na tvaṃ vettha parantapa ||
The Blessed Lord said: “Arjuna, scorcher of foes, many births of Mine and of yours have passed. I know them all, but you do not know them.” In the ethical frame of the dialogue, Kṛṣṇa establishes His superior, continuous knowledge across lives, preparing Arjuna to trust divine guidance beyond ordinary human memory and to act in accordance with dharma rather than personal confusion.
