Sañjaya said: When the armies had, in due succession, all withdrawn from the fighting, the kings—having removed their armor—went to Bhīṣma. The scene marks a pause in violence: the warriors step out of battle’s immediacy to seek counsel and direction from the elder whose authority rests on experience, duty, and the moral weight of command.

Even amid war, conduct is shaped by order and responsibility: when fighting pauses, leaders seek guidance from the most authoritative elder. The removal of armor signals a shift from violence to deliberation—an ethical movement from force to counsel.
After the troops withdraw from combat in sequence, the kings take off their armor and go to Bhīṣma, indicating a formal approach for consultation or instruction during a lull in the battle.
