इति ब्रुवज्छान्तनवो दिधक्षुरिव पाण्डवान्,भारत! ऐसा कहते हुए शान्तनुनन्दन भीष्मने पाण्डवोंकी ओर इस प्रकार देखा, मानो उन्हें भस्म कर डालेंगे। फिर उन्होंने अर्जुनपर एक शक्ति चलायी; परंतु अर्जुनने तीन बाणोंद्वारा उनकी उस शक्तिको तीन जगहसे काट गिराया
sañjaya uvāca | iti bruvan śāntanavo didhakṣur iva pāṇḍavān bhārata paśyām āsa | tataḥ sa arjunāya śaktiṃ cikṣepa | arjunas tu tām śaktiṃ tribhir bāṇais tridhā chittvā nipātayām āsa |
Sanjaya said: Speaking thus, Bhishma, the son of Shantanu, looked toward the Pandavas as though he would burn them to ashes. Then he hurled a spear-weapon at Arjuna; but Arjuna, with three arrows, cut that weapon into three parts and brought it down.
