The line underscores the ethical gravity of war: when violence multiplies through collective action, suffering becomes overwhelming, and individual prowess offers limited protection—inviting reflection on restraint and responsibility.
Sañjaya describes a warrior being intensely and repeatedly pierced by many others—an image of a concentrated, large-scale assault amid the chaos of the Kurukṣetra battle.
