Adhyāya 62: Marutta’s Treasure and the Pāṇḍavas’ Auspicious Departure (मरुत्तस्य धनप्राप्त्युपक्रमः)

ācchādya ca mahābāhur dhana-tṛṣṇām apānudat | brāhmaṇānāṁ tadā kṛṣṇas tad bhūl lomaharṣaṇam ||

Vaiśampāyana said: Then the mighty-armed Kṛṣṇa, having clothed the brāhmaṇas and bestowed wealth upon them, removed their craving for riches. That deed was truly hair-raising—an awe-inspiring act of generosity that restored contentment and honored the worthy.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dāna as a dharmic act: wealth is to be used to support the deserving and relieve need, and true giving aims at removing craving and anxiety rather than inflaming further desire.

Vaiśampāyana narrates that Kṛṣṇa clothes the brāhmaṇas and gives them so much wealth that their desire for more is extinguished; the scale and spirit of the gift is described as lomaharṣaṇa—astonishing and inspiring.
